  doula services

Doulas provide continuous, uninterrupted care for a laboring woman and her partner. They help them participate fully in their experience by offering physical and emotional support and information about the birth process.

A doula is not a replacement for the birth partner.  She assists and supports the primary birth partner to better comfort and encourage the mother along her journey.  The constant, uniterupted care and comfort of a doula helps a woman feel safe and empowered, giving her body the signals to relax, open up and give birth naturally.

Kate has been trained as birth doula in the ALACE and DONA methods.  Her intention is to support the birth that a woman desires, empowering and educating her client along the way.  Kate is available to assist births in the Washington, DC area.

To contact Kate for a free consultation please call 410.302.8186 or email katemiller108@mac.com.

prenatal yoga

Prenatal yoga invites a woman to explore her own valuable resources as a human being.  She learns how to tap into the rythmn of her own breath and how to hold herself in that deep current of her own "prana, or life force energy."  The asanas help to prepare her body for the amazing feat of labor and delivery.  Birth takes both strength and flexibility.  The power of endurance is held in the same hand as surrender.  A muscle must know how to contract and how to let go.  Asana teaches the expecting mother how to orchestrate this balance and weave the mind, body and spirit into harmony.  Meditation offers her a place to recide inside herself.  The more frequently visited, the more it will feel like home.  Opening to the deep intelligence of the, body, mind and heart, we are all able to ride the currents of life with greater ease and clarity.

Kate has studied prenatal yoga with Anusara teachers Mary Barnes, Sue Elkind, Lucy Lomax, Sara Shelly and John Friend.  Her knowledge of anatomy and therapeutics helps to support her students in the relief of common aches and pains that can be associated with pregnancy and childbirth.  Her intention is to empower her students through their journey in yoga and birth.
