  about kate

Kate Miller has been teaching yoga for over thirteen years. She received her first yoga certification in Interdisciplinary Yoga with Don and Amba Stapleton at the Omega Institute in 1996. In 1997, Kate met her now life long teacher John Friend and became certified in Anusara Yoga in 2001. As a yoga teacher, Kate inspires her students to radically affirm and honor all that they embody. Her intention is to inspire her students to step into the current of their own greatness and dive deep into the wisdom and truth of their own hearts. Kate is forever grateful for all the teachers along her life's journey and holds a special light of gratitude to her first teacher and mother, Suzie Hurley.

Deeply dedicated to the spiritual upliftment and empowerment of women Kate's creation of Red Moon Yoga in 2004 was designed to facilitate women and teen girls in recognizing the wisdom and health held in tuning into their own monthly cycles. These workshops and retreats offer great resources and tools for women and girls to take charge of their own fertility and deepen their understanding of their own bodies.

As a professional doula (birth assistant), Kate was trained by Penny Simpkin in the DONA method and received a certificate in the ALACE method as well. Kate holds a deep wish for women to take back the power of their birth process and honor the incredible impression childbirth makes upon their lives as a women. She views childbirth not only as an offering of new life, but also a threshold or rite of passage marking an important stage in a woman's life.

Kate has also been trained as a Teen Talking Circles facilitator. Founded by Linda Wolf, Teen Talking Circles seeks to educate, inspire and empower young women and men; foster partnerships among the genders, generations and cultures; and support youth in positive self-expresion and social action for a just and sustainable world. A teen talking circle gives teens a safe place to speak their truth and offers support in this time of their lives.

Kate holds a BFA in Modern Dance from the University of New Mexico and a masters degree in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. She resides in Washington, DC with her partner Shawn.
